AFAIK the two engines in FO3 and New Vegas are near on identical. I think if we're getting water problems or beard problems then the New Vegas users are getting them as well. Obviously I don't know for 100% certain since I'm not the developer lol, but I'll assume that the two engines are identical. I mean, everything has worked so far.
EDIT: FO3 is my favourite by far, it is MUCH more atmospheric IMO. Lots of people say the same about New Vegas though, so I guess it comes down to personal taste.

Re: Fallout 3
Unfortunately, same engine doesn't automatically mean compability with the mod.

Re: Fallout 3
New Vegas has better gameplay than Fallout 3 by default. It also has much better writing than Fallout 3, like leagues better. It's story is branching, with multiple endings for each faction. The player also has agency in the game world. What the player is able to do when it comes to choices actually matters and has an effect. Fallout 3's choices are extremely black and white. Do you want to be a knight in shining armor (literally, when it comes to the BoS) or mustache-twirling evil (blowing up Megaton just because)? The depth of choices available to the player in New Vegas is even evident in the gameplay. You can literally kill every character in the game and still find alternative ways of completing objectives, whereas Fallout 3 is content with making half of the NPC population unable to be killed. The world in New Vegas even makes more sense. Settlements are set up along major traffic routes, there are farms for food, clean water, and overall everything is laid out in a realistic and believable manner. Sure, Fallout 3 has cool set pieces. Megaton is a cool thing to see, but then when you think about it it's retarded. Why the hell did they build their settlement around a bomb? Where do they get food for everyone? There's no road or any sort of traffic route near the town. It's literally just in the middle of nowhere. Same deal with Big Town, the Republic of Dave, the town on the crumbling overpass. Individually these places are cool to see on their own, but when you start thinking about why they are set up the way they are and how they fit into the world, you'll see that there's absolutely no logic to it. Every settlement is literally it's own private little island world that has no effect on any other place. Little Lamplight being next to a vault of Super Mutants is a perfect example of this. Going back to the writing the characters that inhabit the world of New Vegas are much more fleshed out and aren't just 2D caricatures. Just one companion in New Vegas has more depth and feeling than anybody in the entirety of Fallout 3.DogStar wrote:Am I right in thinking FO3 is better than New Vegas?
And for having only being developed in 18 months, New Vegas is surprisingly pumped full of content when compared to Fallout 3's 3 or so years of development. I know I'm sounding like a fanboy right now, but after 200 hours and multiple playthroughs I'm still finding new content I haven't discovered before in New Vegas whereas I had stripped Fallout 3 of everything it had after only 80.

Thank you midhras - MTindle and deadense esp. for the lengthy and enlightening reply... I guess the best thing is to pick up both. I was going through a non gaming period when they came out, so don't know much about either really.
Great shots BTW

You can use Tale of Two Wastelands to combine the two games into one big one.DogStar wrote:Thank you midhras - MTindle and deadense esp. for the lengthy and enlightening reply... Re: Fallout 3
Yeah I loved both but I just preferred the atmosphere of FO3 a bit more, and FO3 had better level design. Point lookout is great.
New vegas' dialouge is better though, and there are more morality choices like already said.

Re: Fallout 3
Yeah, I was talking from a pure design perspective. I've found wandering the Capital Wasteland much more engaging than the Mojave Desert. But I didn't really give NV much chance, to be honest. I'll give it another go sometime.

Re: Fallout 3
Quite probable. I was wandering the wasteland and then I got beamed up into this Alien vessel. My ENB does tend to pronounce colours somewhat, certainly with respect to the original game and it's harsh colour correction:
