Windows photo viewer doesn't display correct gamma. Try something like this to view images: http://www.xnview.com/en/

@sw1000xg

Its because imgur converts your .bmp to .jpg. Jpg often shows this artifacts. Use gimp/photoshop/irfanview to convert your .bmp's to .png and upload the png's

Re: TES Skyrim

@sw1000xg : If using GIMP make sure to check the advanced settings when you convert to jpg... since the default will have various settings enabled that cause compression artifacts. I do not know if photoshop also have some default settings that will result in this.

Re: TES Skyrim

Another option for image format is to use a good image editing program (Gimp or photoshop will do the trick) and save the image as a 100% quality JPEG. Saved at 100% you lose no quality but still get the small file size and image hosting sites such as imgur or flickr don't butcher them. I know some of the "pro" screenarchers use this method as opposed to .png. I've heard imgur may still butcher even .jpg or .png files but I've never used it so I don't know for sure. Just another option I wanted to throw out!

Um, JPEG is still a compressed image format, therefore compression artifacts.
PNG and BMP is both uncompressed.

Re: TES Skyrim

Right, it is a compressed format but saved at 100% quality has the least compression and is most friendly to image hosting sites which will compress and butcher the image and add compression artifacts that aren't there in the original. If it's in JPEG format the image hosting sites don't add further compression. A .bmp or .png will of course be better than a 100% quality .jpg, but once it goes to most hosting sites they compress it anyways. I don't know much more about this though. People like Duncan Harris, Jim2point0, Midhras or some of the other DET folks would be the ones to explain it. And maybe some of my info is wrong (if it is I'll gladly be corrected). This is what I've been taught (by Jim2point0) and it seems to work. It's another method to try is all I'm suggesting... one not often thought of because of the file format.
