Re: Fallout 4

Testing, ENB only with Modular Shader Library by JawZ, downsampled from 5k

Edit: banding caused by Flickr resizing (download/view 4k file to see as intended)

AgainstAllAutority wrote:let me share my favorite tonemapping formula:

Code: Select all

color = 1 - pow(2.718, - color * exposure);
this one is a solid curve widely used in photography.
not as fast as x/(1+x), yet it have more smooth and natural curve to my taste
some links to graphs:

exposure 0.9

exposure 5.0

classic x/(1+x)

as you can see where classic tonemap operator would lose white point (im taking only range 0-10, otherwise curve itself wont be seen, yet you can test it yourself on any range) the exponential still approaches very close to it.

there's a possible amount of tuning:

make exposure adaptation or luma dependant.

Code: Select all

color.a = dot(color.rgb, 0.333); // max(color.r, max(color.b, color.g)) or luma
color.a *= 1/ (color.a + 1.0);
exposure = lerp(0.9, 5.0, color.a); // this will lerp between 2 graphs shown above, depending on color brightness, adding more contrast to the image 1st value is dark areas exposure, second - bright. However i prefer to use palette to adding contrast to image
color.rgb = 1 - exp(-color * exposure); // this is same as pow(2.718, - color * exposure), however i found that modifying pow basement could be usefull too, yet not realistic.

code above is just an example, most likely it will overbrighen image overall (since exposure 5 is quite alot - better use 0.75 lower and 1.25 upper values)
Thanks a lot for these formulas. I'll try them with the first non-beta release. I was using a simplified version of the UC2 tonemaping formula myself but it wasn't 100% satisfying =)

Re: Fallout 4

Love the new pictures everyone :)
tapioks
Thank you, really happy you like them^^
Still working on settings, while trying to learn so I can make quicker adjustments to dof :)

Choose the thumbnail size, copy bottom link, paste here and add .jpg to first url :)

Btw if your aspect ratio is same as picture you can click F11 in
most browsers and it will scale picture to full screen.
It is the only way to see picture correctly, just like in-game. ^^
White grey or brightly color frame around,
will make the picture or video look slightly darker than it actually is.

Last 4k 0.287 before trying 0.288 :>

Re: Fallout 4

Zero
Filmic curve, filmic pass + colormood, other than that - standard gamma tweaks and vibrance.
Installed new enb, with its bloom. Still using reshade bloom over the top of enb, for more "atmosphere" feel for now.

Re: Fallout 4

I used ENB presets with Skyrim but never got into HLSL. After following ENBSeries development for Fallout 4 I think I'm ready to dive in! Thanks for all of your work!
