As far as tweaking nights without wrecking days...The day/night detection system is what you'll have to be using. I've literally no idea exactly how it works, but changing the [NIGHTDAY] settings will influence WHEN it uses the day vs night configurations.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Does anyone know how those settings work? How to tweak them?
I am mostly guessing but it seems the values depict average brightness of the scene. Higher values mean brighter and lower, well ... darker. Therefore with these settings you are identifying the threshold points of brightness when ENB will identify night from day. The curve parameter I believe affects the amount of lerp'ing that is done between the two and will affect how quickly night turns to day and vice versa. This is one of the reasons that dark stormy days will trick ENB into believing its night.
Typical settings are usually in the following ranges:
DetectorLevelDay=0.65 - 75
DetectorLevelNight=0.15 - 35
DetectorLevelCurve=1.0 - 2.0 (I believe lower values will result in a more abrupt transition as I once set it to 0.2 and day turned into night instantly)
This is based on my experience with a variety of ENB configs. Mine are 0.65 and 0.25 respectively, which if my guess above is correct means that:
It is day when the average "brightness" of the screen reaches 65% of maximum or higher and it is Night when it reaches 25% of maximum or lower.
DetectorLevelCurve determines the transition "steps" between the two.
Like I said, kinda guessing here. I set mine as indicated above a long time ago and kinda left it be.
