New Beth's HBAO+ is really shy. There is tons of places were occlusion is lacking.

Like I said, the problem with any non-vanilla ENB preset is that some places will look good, maybe even life-like, while others will look crap. I tested countless ENB presets for Skyrim and not a single one could provide realistic or even good imagery in 100% of places. Most ENB presets for Fallout 4 increase depth by changing black levels. That makes a lot of areas have darker shadows and more contrast, but once you go somewhere where its very dark, you're going to lose detail because your black levels will be clipped. Preventing that from happening is one of the reasons people calibrate their displays. I bet most ENB develpers don't do that and the image they see on their screens doesn't look the same as it would on a calibrated screen. Betheseda themselves screwed up and created color-grading/filter that actually clips white levels, making day-light too bright, destroying detail in many places. With basic vanilla (neutral LUT's), you get balance.

Post any screenshots of any ENB and/or ReShade presets that looks absolutely incredible and then, if you don't mind, let me have it and I will post a ton of screenshots that look awful with that preset, yet look just fine with vanilla.

You could not be more incorrect. I recommend putting your ego on the shelf, developing a sense of patience, studying photographic imagery and learning how ENB's more powerful tools work. As I understand, you basically added DoF (like every other ENB), used a neutral LUT and added a bunch of sharpening. Without looking at any screenshots, it is clear that these types of changes would not be sufficient to craft a realistic looking image.

There's no "EGO" here... I didn't create a custom ENB Preset. I used a vanilla one and I already explained.

I am going for the most life-like approach. H
I am trying to mimic what it would look like in reality.

Well then, you're doing it wrong. This is how "life-like" stuff looks, here, I found some Iraq ruins for ya.

Your shots look like this? No. End of story

No, of course not, but not a single screenshot is anywhere closer. I don't care for making a single screenshot looking realistic, but having a preset that makes every location in the game look realistic-enough without destroying detail in other locations. Most ENB + ReShade presets are exactly about taking screenshots, not consistent in-game graphics.

Anyway, like I said, there isn't a single custom ENB preset that "improves" image quality, depth, and/or contrast in some places without ruining detail in other places, except for vanilla. I am far from the only person thinking that way. It simply isn't possible to make such ENB presets work everywhere because its post-processing, not actual graphical assets.

P.S. I do love ENB for its features, performance improvements, and capabilities (Reflections, AO, Parallax, etc.).

First I thought to write looong long message, with lots of examples, good ways to gather required info on photography, how to make very useful palettes and LUTs, and use them in Photoshop\Gimp to get best results, even with crappy F4 ingame lighting. But reading again through your replies I see - you don't care. You have your own opinion and you won't listen. Take care and good luck with your realistic preset.

@Xilandro

I hear you man, it's not worth the trouble ;)

@MonarchX

Why don't you show me all the places this ENB looks bad and unrealistic compared to vanilla:

@everybody

In other news, I made a short video to share my progress on the 4K Milk Vending Machine retexture I am creating for Fallout 4. For your consideration:

@tapioks, at least he likes his preset. That's the best part ;) Anyway, we all started somewhere, with ugly stuff and crazy tonemapping, bloom all over the place. I still love mids slightly shifted into green (for some weird reason, feels so realistic to me lol, but it's not).
And bloody good job on that milk machine! I hope one day you will go all armed at all those LQ vanilla world textures too.
Gonna stop offtop, don't want my arse getting kicked bo of it :lol:
