Severance: Blade of Darkness
Boris, regarding what you said on the front page... Severance: Blade of Darkness was one of the BEST hack and slash games I've ever played, plus it had gorgeous shadows at the time. Do you think an ENB for that would be even remotely feasible? It's not a d3d9 game right?

Yes, game is very old, probably dx7. I don't want to develop such old wrapper from scratch (because worked with dx7 in 2001-2003 and don't remember it), may be if to try to find such wrapper source code (may be i'll ask from developer of 3dxripper), then making convertion to dx9 (i'm still winxp user) could be good idea.

Oh my god... If you can, please do.
It IS the best game about melee fighting; I loved it & it works on latest computers.

Yeah, that would be so good. Plus it might garner more interest for this old gem. Not that the studio would benefit, because they perished sadly. Truly, this game never got the attention it deserves.
It's great that you can run it at modern resolutions by the way. And there's a couple good adventure mods for it. No free cam though, iirc.
Also, someone should first go in there with texmod or something to disable the hud elements. I've tried but was unsuccessful.
Ah... good old times...

Re: Severance: Blade of Darkness
Drakan and Blade of Darkness are my most favorite old fantasy games for PC, you don't need to say anything advertising me it, i just can't make the mod fast without source of old wrapper (or may be i can, but as remember, direct3d7 differ a lot from dx8 and 9, handled by directdraw and all textures are direct draw surfaces). Btw, this game have only d3d render or allow to select opengl? If opengl available, on the news page several days ago posted link to opengl to direct3d9 convertor, it may help temporary. But the most expected feature which i'm trying to implement is modding inside the game by placing objects on the map and replace textures with user's made and shaders, not an easy unfortunately to develop this.

Yeah, I've used it in OpenGL some time. I'll give it a try and see what works.

Hey guys,
Just stumbled across this thread and thought it might be a good idea to let you know ( if you didn't already that is ) about the site arokhslair
A few members on there, especially Sir Random, are working on a severance mod within the doom 3 engine. It looks great and hopefully it will satisfy us bladers thirst for a long time to come.
Anyway i'm really enjoying the enb series for skyrim and only hope that one day severance could be added to the list as well.
Cheers and thanks for all your hard work.

Re: Severance: Blade of Darkness
Hi, I just found out this post after a couple of weeks of toying around with Blade and ENB.
First of all I want to thank Boris Vorontsof for all the extraordinary work he is doing with the ENB series. I only used it before briefly on Skyrim but I'm starting to see the potential of it as a tool to bring old classics into modern times. Is great that he is sharing it with the world for free.
In order to return the favor I decided to post this. Boris, you mentioned you like this game so maybe you are interested in the few things I found out in order to get ENB running.
- The game is DX7. In order to get it to run on DX9 I'm using nGlide Wrapper and choosing Voodoo2 as the renderer in the game setup. http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
- Im Using ENB 0.158 for GTA San Andreas. I tried most versions and this is the only one that seems to work.
- SweetFX works well on top of it.
Tricky stuff:
-The ENB doesn't work all the time. It only works when a flare from a light in the game is on screen. So you have to look at a torch, sun or any flame for the ENB to kick in.
- To solve that issue on my end I worked in a mod that adds a light to any weapon the character is holding. So there is always a light on screen. Works well most of the time and looks great with the impressive dynamic shadows of the game. Specially when fighting. Sadly it makes 0the game is crash at reload right now so is all very clunky and WIP.
- ENB also switches off when a big body of water is on the screen.
- DOF doesn't seem to work. I guess there's no way for the ENB to access the depth info form Nglide DX9 wrapper?
Well, I think that's what I know. If you ever have time to have a look into it will be very welcome. If not, thanks anyway for all the work so far.
Salut!

Re: Severance: Blade of Darkness
Hi
Thanks, good idea to use that wrapper, i want to try it now. Regarding 0.158, it is designed for GTASA with HUD filter, i recommend to use older versions which apply effects to entire screen with HUD.

Re: Severance: Blade of Darkness
Boris,
I tried all versions of ENB and GTASA 0.158 is the only one that seems to work. My intuition tells me that the fact that is specially modified to not affect the hud (overlay) in GTA makes it work for nGlide wrapper. Looks like other ENB versions can't render on top of the nglide output.
If you try nGlide the correct renderer from the game menu is "r3Dfx Voodoo 1-2". Also once you install Nglide you need to copy the files (glide2x.dll, 3DfxSpl2.dll and nglide_config.exe) from the windows directory into the bin folder of the game. "nglide_config.exe" is where you can actually set the resolution.
Have fun.
