Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

Boris,
You could lock down the Nexus post, so the folks using another ENB mod would use that post instead. This should filter out those dumb noises out while you concentrate feed back from this site.
Been running tests with 0.208, and looks similar with 0.207 on my PC. Haven't had any flash of white screen yet.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

@Boris

If I understand the problem correctly, the code in 0.201 is incorrect, and new, correct code doesn't work right because there is a bug in DX, and it doesn't report the correct vram amount in cards with 4GB or more.
If what I said is correct I'd keep the new correct code. I don't know how hard/easy to mantain that incorrect 0.201 code would be or if you need to build something on top of it, but that bug should be eventually fixed (If it's well known) and then you would have to change your code again (if you keep the 0.201 code).

Nah, seriously - I feel your pain. Being a n00b is one thing (and I think few of us can communicate with you on the same level of technical experience and knowledge - users are users...), being an ungrateful ass is something else. Just ignore those creeps.

The game is buggy, 500 million mods give an insanely great number of combinations that can fuck up everything, and still ALL of us - stuttering or not - have a much more enjoyable, stable and beautiful Skyrim thanks to you.

You optimize the code as you see fit and invent new cool stuff - our job how to tune and mod our Skyrim so that it runs well with ENB. I for one am checking my complete mod list one by one for compatibility issues. E.g. WATER is a known hog on ressources and seems to cause quite a bit of the stutter and lagging when rotating the cam, even when there is no water in sight. No idea why, and why more when ENB is active, maybe combination with some other mod or certain effects in certain ENB presets.. Trial and error... and not your problem.

Keep your ears up, as we say here ;-)

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

Ok... just posting my findings, played about 2 hours with 0.207 and 0.208, default values on ini. (also tried ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 for 0.208 after CTD)

0.207: Runs very well on my system best version since 0.200 or even best of all, no stutter, no freeze, no CTD, it's very good dealing with full VRAM, only flaw is sometimes after loading I get low fps but after a few seconds it goes back to normal performance, unlike 0.200, and if it takes to long, alt-tab gets the fps back to normal too. (I guess DisablePreloadToVRAM=true should also fix this?)

0.208: Good for a little while then it starts to stutter everywhere , 360º camera rotation is full of big stutter, alt-tab gets performance back to normal then stutter's again, the 2 hours I played with this version I had 1 CTD and 1 Skyrim stopped responding.

My system: I5 3570k STOCK / GTX 660 Ti 3GB VRAM STOCK / ASUS P8Z77-V / 8GB RAM / 1TB HDD / Win7 64-bit
GeForce 320.49 Driver.

Hope it helps.

Also, I wanted to share something that you may not know. I played with 0.204 for a few days, then I started to notice Stack Dumps that created over 15000 lines a sec in the Papyrus log apparently caused by a script in Skyre, so I took all mods out apart from Skyre and Skyrim dlc's to see if it was mods conflicting, I still had the same Stack Dumps, then I removed 0.204, and no more Stack Dumps, then I put on 0.204 again just to make sure, and I had Stack Dumps again. I did this 4 times and every time 0.204 was out of the game there wore no stack dumps. I tested this with Skyrim vanilla inis (just activated log) and I also tested with "iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2457600". Now, I don't know if versions from 0.200 to 0.204 all did this but 0.204 did this for sure. But this appears to have been fixed from version 0.206 (I did test, but couldn't replicate). The problem may be from the Skyre script, but it did not show unless I was running 0.204. Was the ENB's memory fix pushing Skyrim/Papyrus too hard causing it to Stack dump? Just letting you know (if you didn't already).

0.207 is AMAZING (on my system). Thank you (again) Boris!

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

Honestly,

I think 207 is the best so far.... 208 had more stuttering for me.

Thanks for your great work.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

A little late, but here are two tests using .208 with a Titan card if it's still of interest. The first is with memory settings below and the second is with all the settings false. With below settings, the GPU is thrashing when the save game first loads. I am panning around and I get around 1FPS. This doesn't end until I free the vram around the 250 sample in the first image. At that point, the FPS goes up to normal around 50-60FPS. This seems to last until new textures are loaded when moving into a new area or new NPCs. Then it's the same 1FPS until again vram is freed. At the 320 sample, I started a new game and the remainder of the graph is the intro sequence up to getting out of the cart. The experience in the intro was the same as the save game. Panning the view around or pointing the view in certain directions and holding it produce the low FPS. The second graph shows a few things. Once the save game loads, there is almost no stutter. The memory use is much more since there is no enbhost.exe taking it away. It gets close to the 3.1gb mark. The dips in the GPU on the second graph are from things I am doing in game like bringing up menus. I didn't try .207, but I had the same experience with .206. Oh, and I have my toilet hooked up for water cooling, does that matter? Thanks!

Code: Select all

[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true
DisableDriverMemoryManager=true
ReservedMemorySizeMb=512
DisablePreloadToVRAM=false
EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

v.208 is a MASSIVE improvement over v.207 for me! No more stuttering, no more unloadable saves, just pure smooth awesome! Will post SPM tests tomorrow.

Beautiful Boris! Thank you!

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

v0.207 seemed to solve the low FPS some of my users were having with v0.206 in high memory use areas like the Windhelm harbor, according to feedback I've received.

I will trust that this is the best overall direction for the project and it is entirely your prerogative, however I would hate to see a rollback on code that was potentially making progress specifically to support a few whiny minorities with one specific video card model. Might I suggest, a simple alternate version for Titan users? Either way, I will test out v0.208 but v0.201-0.205 never worked well for me. v0.207 really seemed like a breakthrough but again, it is entirely up to you.

Sometimes you just have to take a step back, go on a relaxing hike through some beautiful Russian woodlands, and unwind, ya know?

This exactly. :D
0.207 is still the best version for me.
Take one or two days off, Boris ;)

Re: TES Skyrim 0.208

I've honestly had no issues with any version. Now, I'm not 100% sure, but was all the testing supposed to be for the ReduceSystemMemoryUsage function?

I've tested mostly with ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false, as that one never gave me problems. I don't use uGrids tweaks, and I have quite a bit of HD mods installed. No CTD's, no stuttering, no issues at all.
