Re: TES Skyrim 0.121 beta

Such a small difference, so pity. When i measured on my videocard, detailed shadows are 1.5-1.8 times faster, their filtering twice, sky lighting two times and their filtering too, don't remember about ssao as i did it first and it's not finished, but as played it in SizeScale=1.0, performance was nice. I just found another issue, interior scenes have sun rays activated, better to turn off as they don't have. Very bad that game isn't completely deffered, because many effects require filtering code and on my videocard at 720p resolution each filter of low quality is 1.5-2 ms, middle is 2.0-4 ms, etc, and i can't filter all effects in one pass, for example shadows and skylighting computed much earlier than ssao. There are many optimizations still available, even not mine invented, but as nobody have huge performance boost, don't see much sence in this, better bring new effects or change existing to higher quality.

Version 1.21 gave me +7 fps.

Well, I'll just express my opinion right here, and I speak only for myself.
I couldn't agree more Boris. Sure, performance matters.... a bit. And sure the more people can enjoy ENB, the better it is.
Of course, we couldn't play and enjoy something that would bring us on our knees, down to 20 FPS :D

On the other hand, I remember enjoying your first incarnations as much as I enjoy the recent ones. I have great memories of 0.102..... in wich SSAO_SSIl was WAY more taxing.
I mean, you gave us the ability to have several values and several parameters to tweak quality and performance.
SSAO - DOF togglers do exist.
There's many things to take care off, performance wise, before tweaking the quality of your effects. (game inis, textures, etc....) and these impact perormance a LOT.
Many times, I read people complaining on the Nexus about ENB, but they forgot their game was full of 4K textures and they kicked their uGrids to 11.... :D

I mean, all is balance.
On my side, I like the fact you're taking time to create, GIVE and explain. This is fantastic. And I couldn't describe what pleasure I'm taking tweaking your creations.

Go for quality Boris, invent, go ahead. If you're thinking about new effects and if it's what makes you think about improving, just go on.
You can't perfect a game that needs SO much optimizations from Beth yet.
Personally, QUALITY first, far beyond the rest, since you maintain playability.

We can't ask you everything, like a TON of new effects running @120 FPS.... ;)

Re: TES Skyrim 0.121 beta

There is definitely a good boost because now i am able to use uGrids 7 without any loss. Before i had to stay with 5.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.121 beta

Okay, i'll do quality changes better and new effects. Skylighting and ssao are most important to realistic look. There are some other effects wanted to make long time ago, but not sure about them, even reflection isn't fit the game, only to finish it and expect from users to tweak intensities of lighting to make reflection visible? Don't know.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.121 beta

This was my gain in performance going from 0.120 to 0.121.

Haven't played with the new version, more than taking these photos, as I have just now finished formatting and re-installing Windows 7 now :P

And I noticed some difference in the skylighting effect (Atleast it's what I guess is causing the more intense shadows) Not a problem though. As far as I can tell, just need re-calibrate some settings so it will be the same as before.

Using the same settings for all the tweakable settings know to me (ENB, RLWC, Nvidia, Skyrim ini files etc)

No SSAO or DOF was used here, but all the other effects we're used with "quality" settings on (0=High Quality, 1=Quality and 2=performance in my book ;) )

v 0.120 ~48 FPS
Image

v 0.121 ~59FPS

I also waited a bit in-game before I took the photos, to see where the avg FPS was approximately at during this scene, and it was around 9-11 FPS increase in performance during that time.

@ Boris
I agree with Oyama, best to optimize in the way you can, but you can't perfect a game like Skyrim (which has bad engine) with ENB. Do it in the way you want, and go forward from there ;)

True. You'll always depend on specular maps quality, vanilla ones and modded ones as well I guess.
Anyway, fiddling around with speculars and subsurfacescattering, depending on the specular maps, can emulate kind of reflections for now.
I'm not sure that reflections may fit Skyrim pretty well... Don't know either.

The idea you had about SkyLighting seemed REALLY good to me (talking about implementing sort of SSIL in it and making it more precise and efficient). This and increasing quality of existing effects appears to be way to go to my eyes.

Implementing deferred rendering was a real improvement I think. SSAO is far better to me in 0.120 than it was in 0.119, deeper and more accurate.
Lots of us were already using post-process AA before 0.120 to not interfere with your effects and win back performance.

Before anything, take some rest ! ;)

Forgot To Mention, My PC Config is Geforce 9800GT 1gb, 3gb ddr2 and Dual Core E6500 Clocked to 3.6Ghz.
I am for performance.
Thx for ENB.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.121 beta

I guess reflection in skyrim is impossible without changing textures.
There is a shader mod for Minecraft game. They are making reflections by adding specular maps for textures i think. There was a article about how they did it but i cant find it anymore.
