Re: TES Skyrim 0.254

I'm currently experiencing problems with ENB and would appreciate any assistance. I recently did a clean install of all the software on my PC (OS, steam games, everything). Since doing this, Skyrim won't run with ENB; it immediately crashes on startup. Before the system wipe, my Skyrim installation worked fine with ENB, so I'm a bit perplexed about what could be the issue. Only two things are different about my system, now: One, my Steam directory is now on a separate SSD from the OS (before, the OS and all of my steam games were on the same drive.) Two, I updated my Nvidia graphics drivers to the most recent version. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Notes: I have made sure to disable all antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. I am not running any overlay software. I have also disabled Windows UAC.

You may need to add enbhost.exe to your antivirus exclusion list.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.254

I tried adding enbhost.exe as an exception to my antivirus. However, that didn't help; Skyrim is still crashing immediately after the Bethesda logo.

The problem only occurs with the more recent ENB binaries. Just to see if it would work, I tried the old 0.108 and 0.119 binaries, and Skyrim loaded up and played.

Edit: I also tried setting enbhost.exe to always "run as administrator." This didn't help either.

If you use the latest Alpha 1.7.0 skse version then ExpandSystemMemoryX64 should be set to false. Maybe this will help

Re: TES Skyrim 0.254

Quick question..
I know it's not allowed to upload ENB binaries on Nexus. But is it allowed to upload the enbhelper.dll along with a preset? Or does that Count as a ENB binary as well....
Thanks!

Insomnia
I believe it's fine. Many other presets have done so and it's not even hosted on enbdev.com. I'd say you're good.

Hehe, yeah, raytracing and processing power would be for another topic ;) But as far as getting those effects, there is no way to do so, to my knowledge, in Skyrim. I've never seen it done before, nor even a discussion on how to do it. I'm inclined to think it's not possible because ENB functions primarily by adding post-processing effects, after the initial render (this explanation is likely awfully simplistic but it serves its purpose.) That would have to be done as part of the initial render and so would require the Skyrim engine to create the effect which it's simply not capable of doing. I think, of anyone here, Boris (obviously) and --JawZ-- would be the ones who could explain this best, but their answers will likely be the same. Even if there was a way to get even a close effect, it would likely be VERY buggy. However, if you figure out how to do it, by all means, let us know! I'd be the first one in line willing to try that out.

Re: TES Skyrim 0.254

@Jafin16: ENB does not have access to the actual rendering pipeline of Skyrim? Now I am even more impressed by what Boris has accomplished, I wouldn't have believed half of the stuff ENB does was possible with post-processing alone. In that case I'm just going to be content with the lovely things he already has given us to play with, and stick with one colour for my stained glass windows (because then a simple shadow-casting light can do what I need).

Well, like I said, my explanation was awfully simplistic, but no, it doesn't have full access to the rendering pipeline. I'll be the first to admit that I don't really understand the underlying inner workings of ENB graphically (I've got a decent handle on the memory handling aspects tho), but I DO know that it's almost entirely post-processing. I would also like to throw out there that if anyone knows better and would like to correct me on any of this, or explain it more fully, please do. (Boris! Oyama, Matso, JawZ, Mindflux, Bronze316, any of you lurking out there? )

Re: TES Skyrim 0.254

There are plenty of good blogs, articles etc. around the net on how .dll hooking works for directX if you want to know more about how the mojo works. Even examples on how to create your own basic stuff.... still miles away from what ENB does... but interesting if you want to know more.

I'm aware of this and am using SKSE v1.6.16.

Anyone else? I still have no idea what the problem is. As I said, I've ran ENB (including the most recent 0.254 binary) many times in the past without any crashes. Just since doing a clean install of my system has this problem occurred; however, I haven't changed anything with my system, other than installing my games on a separate SSD. I even tried rolling back to the Nvidia 314.22 drivers, to see if it was an issue with the recent drivers, but the crashing continues. Any help would be much appreciated!
