Can I disable the AO from ENB 0.254? I was told that "because of the way ENB works in the newer binaries, you can't force any of that through hardware even if you turn it off. It has something to do with deferred rendering." Common sense tells me I can just put 'false' next to 'EnableAmbientOcclusion' in the ini file but apparently what I am trying to do is "well documented". Just trying to get some more substance on this info.
To shed some light on what I'm trying to do, I want to compare ENB's SSAO to that of Nvidia's HBAO+ and since I theorize that the difference will be minimal if at all noticeable, it would be benefitial to find out if this is possible in the first place.
I believe you can simply put false there and that will disable AO completely and allow you to use HBAO+ just fine. If it doesn't, you could turn off deferred rendering but you'll lose some other effects with it that way (just as if you enabled hardware AA). However, many have performed this experiment and the conclusion has consistently been that ENB AO is superior, more configurable, and if you're using a preset that is AO dependent (which many are) it's going to look drastically different. Remember also that ENB's AO isn't JUST ambient occlusion but indirect lighting as well, which HBAO+ does not offer and has a significant impact on image quality. Performance MAY be better using Nvidia's option, but that's simply a result of being driver enhanced, no IL, and being of lower quality all around. HBAO+ is good, but it's got nothing on ENB's AO. However, give it a try and maybe you will like it better. In the end, it does come down to what looks better to your eyes.
