It's not just grass, but almost everything with green color (must be).

Can I disable the AO from ENB 0.254? I was told that "because of the way ENB works in the newer binaries, you can't force any of that through hardware even if you turn it off. It has something to do with deferred rendering." Common sense tells me I can just put 'false' next to 'EnableAmbientOcclusion' in the ini file but apparently what I am trying to do is "well documented". Just trying to get some more substance on this info.

To shed some light on what I'm trying to do, I want to compare ENB's SSAO to that of Nvidia's HBAO+ and since I theorize that the difference will be minimal if at all noticeable, it would be benefitial to find out if this is possible in the first place.

I believe you can simply put false there and that will disable AO completely and allow you to use HBAO+ just fine. If it doesn't, you could turn off deferred rendering but you'll lose some other effects with it that way (just as if you enabled hardware AA). However, many have performed this experiment and the conclusion has consistently been that ENB AO is superior, more configurable, and if you're using a preset that is AO dependent (which many are) it's going to look drastically different. Remember also that ENB's AO isn't JUST ambient occlusion but indirect lighting as well, which HBAO+ does not offer and has a significant impact on image quality. Performance MAY be better using Nvidia's option, but that's simply a result of being driver enhanced, no IL, and being of lower quality all around. HBAO+ is good, but it's got nothing on ENB's AO. However, give it a try and maybe you will like it better. In the end, it does come down to what looks better to your eyes.

Please help. I cannot use this version of ENB. When I start the game, it gives me an error on the top saying "Error! bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 is not set in SkyrimPrefs.ini or you have several copies of the file." I checked and I only have one copy of SkyrimPrefs.ini and I do have bFloatPointRenderTarget set to 1. This is what the game looks like for me:

I know it is not the preset I am using because I tested it with the default preset and the preset I want to use. I also noticed that in the readme it says "Start SkyrimLauncher.exe to configure your video options again." I'm not exactly sure what they want me to do when it says that. Am I missing something?

Are you changing the SkyrimPrefs file in your 'My Documents\My Games' folder?

Simplest things first:
Install ENB, then start the Skyrim Launcher and let it reconfigure the video options.
There, you HAVE to disable AA for most of ENB's effects to work but can configure everything else to your liking.

Afterwards you'll have to jump over to the before mentioned SkyrimPrefs file and make sure that bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 in the [Display] category is set.

From now on just launch Skyrim via the Skyrim.exe, or skse_launcher.exe to make sure that the launcher doesn't change things.

Hey Jafin,

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I totally forgot about the indirect lighting provided by ENB.

I tested this last night and found out first-hand that ENB AO is indeed my preferred AO method in that it is the most accurate in my opinion and provides better quality in comparison to HBAO+. I was already leaning towards ENB AO as it was from all the hours I've spent with my current setup but playing around with different settings is the beauty of computer gaming. That and the knowledge gained from experimenting.

Whenever I've seen this type of issue reported, it has always been a result of someone using Mod Organizer. I don't use that tool, but I think it manages your ini files by placing them in alternate locations. If you use Mod Organizer, I would suggest looking into disabling this feature of the tool or find some other workaround from the author of the tool.

If you're using mod organizer, you need to go to mod organizer/profiles/(name of profile) The ini files are in there. It ignores the my games one.

That the user refuses to read the documentation and so does not know that ini's are handled differently with MO is not a problem of MO or of the MO author but the user is for 100% the problem here.
There is no need to disable anything or demand work around for a "problem" that does not even exist.

MO is many times more powerful and versatile then NMM but it requires the user to read up on it before using... and that is sadly too much to ask for 98% of the Nexus community.

With my newest rig my game runs at pretty much the same framerate with ENB both disabled and enabled (which was 60fps almost all areas). But recently I loaded up my save and it suddenly ran much worse, like it dropped down to 20-30fps in most outdoor areas. Disabling ENB cranks it back up to 60fps. Tried making a new game and the problem is still present. Anyone have any idea why this suddenly happens out of the blue like that? And how to fix it?

Edit: Oh, and the ENB preset has always had every effect enabled and in high quality. My rig is pretty decent and can handle it, but suddenly it's like it sucks. No other games are affected so I don't know...

Edit: Well, I seem to have fixed it. Waitbusyrenderer was set to true for some reason. I'm positive I've always had it to false and never set it to true myself... Anyway yeah, solved. I can again enjoy Skyrim in 60fps.
