Thank you very much, Boris.
I've made a note on my mod page for people who're having the same issue.

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
Hey! Thanks for this Tipp! I ve got much better Performance now in certain Locations, after lowering the iShadowMapResolution to 2048. Dont know if its so much impact on the Shadows, looks still good for me. So many thanks again!

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
I'm probably just not savvy enough and it's simply going over my head, but I've been having (what sounds like) very similar issues.
Only facing certain directions in the outside world do I suffer frame loss, but wow do I suffer.
i.e. 30 fps with max graphical and ENB settings looking straight out at a mountainous region -> rotating my view a single degree towards the problematic area = 1-5 fps (20+ frame loss) instantaneously.
But that's just an example, it's not that I'm looking at a specific object because it happens everywhere. I DON'T have any lag with the sleeping giant inn fire from any direction and I'm just too lame to keep up with you all let alone make sense of it myself xP
Any help's thoroughly appreciated!
GTX 570 DCU-2 WHQL 320.49
i5 2500k OC'd 4.6GHz
16GB 1866 MHz RAM
Project ENB - Realistic with v0.214 ENB
I fracken love ENB and I'll never play skyrim without it again!

If memory manager enabled, then you need to tweak it, otherwise don't know.

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
/cry
The thing is, ENB config window shows I have ~3GB (varies) of available memory and that my mod memory usage is at 196MB (at all times).
Sideline question: Don't skyrim mods use variable amounts of memory during gameplay? it's at 196MB every time I check it.
oh well, I'll have to put up with it... The pros outweigh the cons when considering ENB effects!
I guess if I want to make a left turn from now on, I'll have to make three rights
I'll just remember that One Direction sucks. (You get it?! 'cause there's a band named-.. ahh forget it)
Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
Okay, I think I have found the issue...at least for the problem I was having. It was the setting in enblocal.ini. The memory management is preset and isnt always the best for your card. So, go into the enblocal.ini file and look for the section labeled 'MEMORY'.
This is how I have set my memory settings:
As you can see, I have set a reserved memory size for the game of 1500MB, Im not sure if that is system or VRAM however. I have correctly set my VRAM to 3GB and turned off the 'Reduce System Memory Usage'. I did this because I have 12GB of system RAM, so I dont really need it. Now, I dont lag regardless of direction, I hold a steady 50-60FPS on max settings.
This is how I have set my memory settings:
Code: Select all
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false
DisableDriverMemoryManager=false
DisablePreloadToVRAM=false
EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false
ReservedMemorySizeMb=1500
VideoMemorySizeMb=3000

onem4nb4nd
Mod memory usage is not game memory usage. VRAM used by mod depends from screen resolution mostly.

Even with 32 gb of ram nothing will change to you.

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
So, if you would please briefly tell me what would cause FPS loss, if not maxed out VRAM.
And if it's my Game memory usage (instead of the figure shown in enbseries window) that's slowing me down, how would I find that out?
Also, if someone could tell me what ENB's memory features do and/or if I should be using any of them. e.g. Reduce System Memory Usage, and Unsafe Memory Hack (that one's obviously for special cases, but I don't know if that's me).

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
Vram is split by real vram and fake which is in ram. When real is full, performance degrading. So, another tweaking of memory manager parameters is the only solution and GTX5xx cards have performance issues with memory manager don't know why, many users reported. Modify video memory size parameter to 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 to see which work better and if nothing from them, then modify reserved memory size 64, 256, 512.

Re: FPS Loss when facing certain directions
I've had this problem for some time now, and could not figure out what the hell was going on.
I would get massive frame stuttering and extreme FPS drop in small interior locations or when looking in certain directions. This problem has plagued me with ENB presets over the months.
Until I was in a cave and staring directly at a camp fire. Only when looking directly at it would my FPS drop 20-30 frames and produce stuttering. So I sat there staring at the fire and went through every ENB option to see if I could find the culprit - Soft Particles
Turning off Soft Particles completely removes the problem for me, it also changes the textures of the fire embers. I'm not sure if it's related to a texture mod I have installed or not. I have removed "Realistic Smoke & Embers" as well as "Ultimate HD Fire". The problem is definitely "Soft Particles" for me.
Soft Particles: OFF - FPS 60 - Fire displays glowing embers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soft Particles: ON - FPS 40 - Fire does not have glowing embers
Strange bug, or I have bad settings?
