It's not a bug, it's how soft particles work. The closer you are to fire, the slower performance is, especially if such particle system is modified to contain more particles. It's fillrate and texelrate hardware bottlenecks both, very noticable at big display resolution or when videocard is 128 or 64 bit memory bandwidth.

Interesting, thanks for the reply

I'll have to run without Soft Particles until I figure out why I get such an FPS loss.

I run GTX 680 in SLI, with a current CPU.. so I shouldn't be getting such problems. I also have problems with facing directions, I think it may be Memory Manager?

SLI unsupported, turn it off or ask other SLI users here which profiles they use or performance will be awful. I'm fine with particles with gf650ti.
