Hey guys!

I'm reinstalling my Skyrim and after some time being away from the game i was blown away by all the "Stability" fixes for the game, SSME, ENBboost, Safty Load, Safeugridstoload and ect . .
And i got kind of overwhelmed . . so i started with some research and i didn't understand one thing, i have 2g 680GTX card a 64bit OS with 12gb 1600 mhz RAM, so i want stability as much as possible, now i decided to monitor my VRAM with GPU-Z so i won't get too cocky with textures and i was amazed to find out that after Skyrim HD + Flora + Amidianborn armors and weapons pack i have almost reached my limit for VRAM, just entering whiterun and going through the forge and then entering the companions' mead hall i hit 1.8gb . .

Now this surprised me because this already was like only 1/3 of my texture setup in my previous gameplay . . and the game worked quite well . . so i guess ENBoost helped me ? or i'm not sure what . .
But i would like some guide lines about this issue, is it safe to get to a 100% limit ? will i just get stutters ? how does this work exactly ? does SSME help this issue with any way ?

Thanks !

Try to save in a tiny location(Breezehome for ex), exit game. Then load this save and check your VRAM consumption. Go outside, then return back to Breezehome and check VRAM again.

ok in breezehome i get aroudn 600-700mb i step outside i get 1000mb, i walk around and get 1500mb,
I heard that it's ok to overload the GPU ram and that the only problem it will do is stutters when it swaps textures from the SSD and some stutters mainly is that accurate ?
Because in my last setup i went to the forge and i had black textures and later on CTD and it sounds like a VRAM issue and i found out that i was using all my VRAM, but then i read that ENBoost is there to keep that from happening or maybe i didn't have enough VRAM for that paticular location and all the items in the forge together . . i don't know.
Anyways back to topic, those numbers look ok to you ? kyrim HD + Flora + Amidianborn armors and weapons pack + Immersive Armors.

You forgot to get back into Breezehome and check VRAM usage.
My point here is that having your VRAM at max does not mean you're running out of VRAM. It's just some data from the previously visited locations is being stored in memory(no point to remove it, player can decide to go back in a couple of seconds). If player goes further ahead, and Skyrim requires more VRAM, it will be removed.

At least that's how i understand this.

BTW, do you happen to have a bunch of custom followers installed?

just did it, yeah i see what you mean when i got back it still stayed 1500mb and it makes sense, so basically the whole VRAM monitoring is pretty useless then right ?
How do i know when to stop using textures ? is there anyway ?

I don't have anything installed, except what i listen and some patches no more content what so ever.
Am i the only one who experiences the jittery performance from an ENB as if it kinda skips frames ? even when it's on 60fps?

I think you can write down your current VRAM usage when you just loaded a save in a town and in Skyrim exterior. Those should be the heaviest possible situations.
BTW, i think you need to exit Skyrim every time before loading and checking VRAM, otherwise you will see incorrect usage because of the data from the previous load.
Don't know how to find out otherwise.

Yes, i have jittery performance too. But i guess that's fine considering my graphics card.

Weird because it's already close to max . . so when i'm in town its 1500 so it's like 500 left or 400 to be on the safe side . .
To be honest i belive this is much more important then all the "Stability" guides and S.T.E.P out there, because after this it all comes down to hardware and numbers . . and there's no place that explains how to check the boundaries of your system . .

I have a 680GTX and i still get that . . but as i said it happens even with only the memory patch applied . .

I think going over your VRAM will add some stutters when turning around, maybe a drop in your min FPS.

You said you're using an SSD? Do you have or maybe had saves that crash after the loading screen?

Yes i do have an SSD the only downside is that it's my OS's drive but i didn't install it to the program files as per instructions.
And it's a clean win install and installed skyrim and haven't even played with it yet so no saves.

I use ENB plus SKSE alpha with the memory patch, ugrids set to 9 with a ton of textures and mods - I virtually always max out my 3gb VRAM with no issues and 100% stability. Set ENB to auto detect your VRAM and it allocates RAM for additional textures once you reach your cards limit. The game runs very smoothly other than occasional minor stutters on turning in heavy areas/ cell loads but no big deal. Basically I wouldn't get hung up on your VRAM usage unless you actually experience any issues, just don't go too mad with textures ;)

EDIT try different reservedmemorysize settings: 128, 256, 512 and turn memory compression off - may help with stutter
