Windows 10 Insider Build V 1709 (OS Build 16299.19)

I installed the drivers for the Windows 10 insider build version 1709 (OS build 16299.19) to get around the DX9 OS VRAM cap. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti with 32GB of RAM. The DX9 VRAM memory size test is reporting 27456MB. No matter what I set my enblocal.ini settings to, results in a crash when I attempt to load a game or start a new game. When I remove the ENB files from my Skyrim LE data folder all is fine again and the game runs without crashing.

I'm using Mod Organizer for modding. I had heard that MO may be the issue - but newer posts claim MS worked that out with continued Windows updates. When I run SKSE right from the Skyrim SE data folder with the ENB files in place, I also get these crashes. Any insight would be VERY appreciated. I've been scouring reddit and nexus forum threads to no avail in regards to this particular issue.

Here is my current enblocal.ini configuration:

Re: Windows 10 Insider Build V 1709 (OS Build 16299.19)

Install DirectX Runtime Standalone 2010 June. If not helps, its crapware, which is steam overlay, afterburner, evga something, d3d overrider, xbox something in win10, windows game explorer, razer and logitek background services, screen capturing software and lot of more. Also can be because of ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true set, try to set false (its skse memory patch have too high value set and conflicts with this one).

Re: Windows 10 Insider Build V 1709 (OS Build 16299.19)

Thanks Boris, I appreciate your reply! I installed the DirectX Runtime Standalone 2010 June but that didn't seem to do the trick. I also went into taskmanager and killed any process that wasn't absolutely essential to Windows 10 and still no luck. I removed my skse.ini [MEMORY] settings and tried crashfixes instead.. still no luck! I finally gave up after 6 hours total of various tweaking and troubleshooting.

Either something is not right with my insider's edition version of windows, or some windows process is hooking into the d3d9x.dll file.

I think I'm just going to roll with Skyrim SE and your new ENB 0.320 update. Thanks again for taking time to answer my post!

Did you try ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false? Just in case...

No, I didn't. Thank you for the additional assistance. I'll give it a shot now and get back to you.. just have to reinstall Skyrim LE first ;)

If it didn't work, then 100% some other software or windows itself messing around (did you try ENB PreSetup tool? Is it show any errors?).

Re: Windows 10 Insider Build V 1709 (OS Build 16299.19)

Ok, just fresh installed the Windows 10 fall creator's update. I had to then install the DirectX Runtime Standalone 2010 June just to get the Skyrim Launcher to run. I got the crash again with fresh Windows 10 install (no crapware) and no mods - just ENB files. There's a blank white window that appears in the upper left hand corner when I run Skyrim - I'm assuming this is the enbhost.exe loading up. So I decided to alt-tab back to the desktop and then back again into Skyrim. I was able to get it to work that way. Then I installed Mod Organizer and SKSE 1.73, set up the skse.ini and tried again. Even with my alt-tab trick it would still crash. Maybe it's the skse.ini settings?

Here they are:

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1

[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048

[Memory]
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768
ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

I'll keep testing different things until I can locate the value that's making me crap out. Thanks for the tip Boris about the ENB PreSetup tool. I'll give it a try.

Update:

ENB PreSetup - TES Skyrim

SUCCESS: DirectX Runtime detected
SUCCESS: SkyrimPrefs.ini found in user documents folder

Still crashing even after I removed skse from the Skyrim folder and tried running straight from the launcher. My old alt-tab trick didn't work this time :(

Next I'll try an older NVIDIA driver..

Re: Windows 10 Insider Build V 1709 (OS Build 16299.19)

Alright Boris! I got it. It wasn't the video card driver, as I tried something else before rolling back to an older NVIDIA driver.. all I did was turn off the ENB (shift + F12) BEFORE loading a save or creating a new game. Once I'm in the game I can turn it on and off at will without issue. Very weird, but I'm ok with it because it's working great now.

That was troubleshooting hell.

Thanks for hanging in there with me!

P.S. - Any idea why that would happen?!

Driver bug or crapware. Dont forget windows 10 itself have processes which hook in to the games, xbox related something. Almost forgot, forced antialiasing in drivers also could be the culprit (and geforce experience another crapware btw).
