the image appears to have a weird texture over everything, I've tried a few versions and its present in most but its very heavy in the last ones(13+)

Observe the images, specially in the rocks closest to the char.

The preset I used for this pic is Somber ENB available on the nexus

and here it is clearly visible in the shadows

Shadow filter not enabled in enbseries.ini.

I'm still getting the same problems, my enb series SHADOW section is as follows

ShadowObjectsFix=true
ShadowCastersFix=true
UseBilateralShadowFilter=true
ShadowQualityFix=true
DetailedShadowQuality=1
ShadowFilterQuality=2
ShadowBlurRange=4.0

I even tried a different preset but I still have the same problem

Hi there,

I've had the same issue using both plain ENBseries (Skyrim) installed from here and RealVision ENB from Nexus. I'm using a GTX660.

At first I thought it might be an artificially reduced colour depth, taking into account the obvious dither effect.

This issue does not appear right from the beginning, but after some time enjoying the breathtaking graphical improvements, all of a sudden there it is again, ugly as hell. And it won't go away by itself again.

What I noticed: I run the game with all in-game graphics sliders maxed out (view distances, lod). When the described effect has started, the sliders all have been turned down without my interference. Something has messed up the settings, but I don't know what and why.

So I looked into the SkyrimPrefs.ini and compared it to the one I downloaded and installed from Nexus. There were quite some differences! Unfortunately I deleted the messed up config file and thus destroyed a valuable piece of evidence (blimey!), but after copying back the "correct" settings, everything's smooth and beautiful again. Restarting and closing the game again didn't change a single byte within SkyrimPrefs.ini, so the program seems to accept my configuration and doesn't change them just because they were bogus.

On one hand, this seems to be a reasonable workaround: always keep a backup of SkyrimPrefs.ini (located in your "My Games" folder), and on the other hand, maybe it's a basis for tracking down the actual culprit. Anyone?

Cheers,
Harald

Uh, yes, i forgot that some users modify skyrimprefs.ini parameter for shadow mask and deffered shadows, then shadow filter not work, it can't.
