Apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum, I'm pretty new here, and I really didn't want to join, but I also would rather not play Skyrim without a stable ENB...
I was instructed by Boris on Skyrim Nexus to ask for help here. So I am. I don't know much about ENB or how to fiddle with it, half the time I upgrade and I lose the settings I want and I have to figure out how to get it to look the same way. Most of the presets out there are too dark, too bright, or just too hard to look at it, and so I have barely gotten by editing them on my own.
I am not very invested in the ENB community as a whole, it's a tool I use, I am not attached to any drama within it...

Now that that's out of the way...Hi.
I was using 0.219 Binaries wrapper and ENBoost for quite some time, with UnrealCinema preset. I was quite happy with it. Previous versions of the binaries seemed to really improve performance for me, and so when the time came, I upgraded to .221.

To ensure my upgrade was 100% smooth and to generally clean out my Skyrim folder, I removed my data folder, uninstalled Skyrim, reinstalled Skyrim, and then installed the ENB by itself, then Bleak from Nexus, for .221, wrapper version. Without using any launchers or anything other than what's included with the game, I attempted to launch the game with the preset turned on...and the game crashes before I reach the main menu.
Okay, so I uninstalled the preset and reinstalled the base ENB. Turned on deferredrendering, re-launched. Crash before the main menu shows up. To ensure it wasn't something else, I attempted to launch with deferredrendering off, and sure enough, the game would launch and I could reach the main menu and even play...however, I would have none of the effects active, of course. I re-read the readmes for both ENB and Bleak's preset, tried to install again, I still receive crashes when trying to enter the main menu.

I had no luck, I spent the better part of a day trying to get the binaries to work on basic Skyrim with no modifications, the reason I avoid the Injector version is that it gives me performance issues, I did not try that to see if that worked, but it really wouldn't be a solution.

Someone chewed me out on Nexus for mentioning it, but they also offered no real help to me, but well, here it is. I -placed-(placed not installed, as in not set to hook into ENB at all) the HialgoBoost files in my Skyrim folder...suddenly the ENB binaries worked and I could get to the main menu. I don't understand why that worked, and I don't really want to use HialgoBoost or anything else, I just want ENB to work.
Can someone tell me if I'm just making a stupid mistake or if this is a bug, or what I can do, I'd really appreciate the help.

I am running a Nvidia GTX 580, 326.41 drivers, 1536mb GDDR5, I have 16gb of system RAM available, my operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, CPU is Intel Quad Core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz, not over-clocked.

Have you tried 0.219 version again? May be it not work too. Attached, try it and post results. If it work, then i'll give you test 0.221 versions with partially restored code from 0.219 to find what cause the problem, ok?
PS: injector work exactly the same as wrapper, you just have bad software running on background which hook in to enbinjector.exe and make it cpu eater, but if you won't do any changes to your pc, after starting the game just close enbinjector.exe, it no longer needed. Also reinstalling skyrim not required when upgrading enbseries or deleting/adding it.

EDIT: file deleted

I did a fresh reinstall of Skyrim to ensure absolutely nothing else was interfering with the ENB and causing it to not start.
Actually, I don't run anything aside from Skyrim Script Extender, and the Nexus Mod Manager in relation to Skyrim. I scan my system weekly for viruses, and I'm using some fairly powerful anti-virus software recommended by an old friend who worked at MSN Gaming Zone back in the day.
In regards to why I even tried placing the HialgoBoost files in, when I searched on google for people with similar problems, someone put the Hialgoboost files in their Skyrim directory, and suddenly the game launched just fine, which is well, what happened with me.

I uninstalled the Hialgaboost files, and put in the .219 wrapper binary, and the game launched just fine now, so that's good.
I had the same effect, the crash on startup, with the .220 binaries as well, so I guess something changed between then and now?
Thank you for helping me with this, at least.

Test attached versions and post which work (partially reverted code from 0.221 to 0.219)

Tried both of those binaries, and both launched the game OK. No clue if they are more stable while actually playing the game or not, but they do launch with no problems, just like .219.

Test attached version. If it work, you may use it and problem is in driver bug or some other software which hook in to game process. Let me know results.

With that binary, the game launched, no issues. Well, and as I said, if you're unsure, I'm definitely not sure what the problem is, I just reformatted my computer some weeks ago, reinstalled Skyrim before I updated to the .221 binary, I'm only running Nexus Mod Manager to launch the game with SKSE, and aside from the ENB binary itself, nothing else is being launched with the game that I know of.

No, i found what cause the problem, but it's not the bug, at least not in the mod. In 0.219 i set render targets, in 0.221 is unset them and then set, so unset fail just for you. Because i did pair operations only for safety, not a problem to restore older code, but use that test at this moment as i don't know when will publish new version.

Hi Borris,

I seem to have the same problem here. I was running v0132 just fine. Because of a new mod I want to try, they recommend v0221 so I upgreaded my d3d9.dll and directly after the opening Bethesda animation (2D) switch to the Skyrim menu (3D) it crashes out to desktop. When I copy the v0132 d3d9.dll back it runs fine again, but I cannot run the mod that uses v0221. I also tried to upgrade to another version available v0168 and it crashes in the same place. I downgraded to v0119 and it runs fine - so something between v0132 and v0168 is causing Skyrim to crash directly after the first 2D animation.

Core i7 - AMD Radeon HD 5700

Any help much appreciated
Thanks
