Apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum, I'm pretty new here, and I really didn't want to join, but I also would rather not play Skyrim without a stable ENB... I was instructed by Boris on Skyrim Nexus to ask for help here. So I am. I don't know much about ENB or how to fiddle with it, half the time I upgrade and I lose the settings I want and I have to figure out how to get it to look the same way. Most of the presets out there are too dark, too bright, or just too hard to look at it, and so I have barely gotten by editing them on my own. I am not very invested in the ENB community as a whole, it's a tool I use, I am not attached to any drama within it...
Now that that's out of the way...Hi. I was using 0.219 Binaries wrapper and ENBoost for quite some time, with UnrealCinema preset. I was quite happy with it. Previous versions of the binaries seemed to really improve performance for me, and so when the time came, I upgraded to .221.
To ensure my upgrade was 100% smooth and to generally clean out my Skyrim folder, I removed my data folder, uninstalled Skyrim, reinstalled Skyrim, and then installed the ENB by itself, then Bleak from Nexus, for .221, wrapper version. Without using any launchers or anything other than what's included with the game, I attempted to launch the game with the preset turned on...and the game crashes before I reach the main menu. Okay, so I uninstalled the preset and reinstalled the base ENB. Turned on deferredrendering, re-launched. Crash before the main menu shows up. To ensure it wasn't something else, I attempted to launch with deferredrendering off, and sure enough, the game would launch and I could reach the main menu and even play...however, I would have none of the effects active, of course. I re-read the readmes for both ENB and Bleak's preset, tried to install again, I still receive crashes when trying to enter the main menu.
I had no luck, I spent the better part of a day trying to get the binaries to work on basic Skyrim with no modifications, the reason I avoid the Injector version is that it gives me performance issues, I did not try that to see if that worked, but it really wouldn't be a solution.
Someone chewed me out on Nexus for mentioning it, but they also offered no real help to me, but well, here it is. I -placed-(placed not installed, as in not set to hook into ENB at all) the HialgoBoost files in my Skyrim folder...suddenly the ENB binaries worked and I could get to the main menu. I don't understand why that worked, and I don't really want to use HialgoBoost or anything else, I just want ENB to work. Can someone tell me if I'm just making a stupid mistake or if this is a bug, or what I can do, I'd really appreciate the help.
I am running a Nvidia GTX 580, 326.41 drivers, 1536mb GDDR5, I have 16gb of system RAM available, my operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, CPU is Intel Quad Core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz, not over-clocked.
