Marcurios, please, stop) There's NVSE 4gb enabler compatible with steam game. And pirated exe can cause other bugs.



And if you guys have problem with 194 and 216 - just use 173 version.



If you have time and want to make sure you're doing everything right - start from scratch. Reinstall windows, then install video+audio drivers, steam+directX+fallout (without mods, without 4gb enablers, other shit, just clean game, and don't touch ini files)+latest enb, set the game like in enb readme and test it again.
If the game will crash (but i'm sure it will not) - your amd card is just not ok for latest enb versions, get Nvidia (gtx 780 is awesome). If the game will run and work with ENB - good for you.
There's always... no, ALWAYS something broken in your system if game crashes with enb, broken by you. You can say "no!" but trust me, yes. I know what i'm talking about. There's hell of a lot people (both nvidia and amd users) with problems with enb, and in 99% the problems are caused by some crapware, shitcodecpacks (yes, codec packs are bad, always use standalone codecs instead), errors in windows registry, or broken installation of some good software like dx, visualC++redist, NetFramework.

Oh, and one last thing. When you're testing enb - use only official preset, one and only.
Only this files:
d3d9.dll
enbbloom.fx
enbeffect.fx
enbhost.exe
enbseries.ini
enbsunsprite.fx *
enbsunsprite.tga *
*you can delete this two files for testing, they're not necessary.

and if you see in your fallout folder something else, like effect.txt, or injector.ini, or other d3d9 files like d9d9_smaa - remove all those files.
And your shaders folder must stay vanilla forever. No new files in, no old files out. only 16 files with "shaderpackage" names.

My steam version does not work, at all.
Not with NVSE, not with anything i do, it just crashes on startup.
I'd say that is a bug that is so major that it overshadows all bugs you can get from the cracked exe in my case.
I'm not saying it works for everyone, but if one has a ATI card, it's worth trying.
But, only cracked exe works with me.

So you see, every PC has different configuration, and that can lead to unexpected behaviour.
Like i said in a earlier post, a friend of mine also has a Radeon 5xx series card, and he has exactly the same problem Steam version does not run on his system.
Cracked exe does.

and his system always is in tiptop shape, it just stupid to reinstall windows for a game from Bethesda.
Cause Bethesda has a track record with the altered Gamebryo engine of gazillions of bugs, one is quite stupid if he reinstalls windows for that.
He would reinstall windows everytime he has a hickup, that is just extremely time consuming and dumb.
Buying a Nvidia card to be able to play just Fallout is stupid too, you know what these things cost ?
And saying just use .173 is also stupid, cause .216 is much better and has a memory manager that CAN make the game extremely stable.
Only if a PC user doesn't know what he is doing and his PC is a mess with viruses and adware and stuff, i would recommend a fresh system install.

although some of your tips are good, you can't assure anyone that what you say is the way to do it, you can merely give some tips to people
on what he can do to try to resolve it, that does not mean that what i say should not be tested and laughed at.

the most important thing being that every computer is different, literally every computer, even if they have the same hardware and software installed they differ.
cause chips are so tiny, that every memory chip or ic has a different die (conductor) setup, there are Always errors when burning chips.
And also that even though you know a lot about computers, you can't know it all just because of what i said about those differences, it is Always trial and error.

and last but not least, you really did not read chicknwatrmln's post very well, cause he did a fresh install with only a new ENB install, so then he does not have
smaa dll and effect.txt and all that stuf in his directory.
you should read all the posts if you want to give a thourough and good advice to the guy.

solving computer problems is a process of elimination, so you try things step by step.
If in the end nothing works, he can Always decide to reinstall windows.
But i worked as a system supervisor at a large company in the Netherlands and i have tons of tricks to restore windows without having to reinstall the entire OS.
Also cleanly installing drivers and take out malicious software, reinstalling is rather drastic and some people have like 4 days of work to get everything
back again to their former setup, with installing software and re-configuring their system, especially when they do not have a fresh install backup laying around.

some people do not only play a Fallout game but actually use their PC for work and other stuff..

I will skip 99% of your post and just say it one more time:
If enb is not working - there's always something broken in the system, broken by you. Hundreds of thousands of people are using an ENB for supported games, and they don't have any serious problems. And there's only a few people who can't make it work. And they will never admit that the problem is on their side.

And yeah. You can call me stupid one more time if you want, but... your steam fallout doesn't work at all, NVSE doesn't work, enbsunsprite.fx doesn't work. I'm sure there's something else not working, huh? Maybe you just have something broken in your system. Who knows) "they will never admit"

You clearly didn't read any of my posts. Don't assume anything about me or my game setup if you're not gonna take time to read my posts.

I can't reinstall Windows because I have special software that I need for school every day. I can't spend days on end reinstalling my entire OS for a game.

And not everybody has $600+ to drop on a graphics card. At least Marcurios has been trying to help me instead of suggesting things that have already been said 100x over.

Anyways, I'm gonna keep trying to get this to work. I'll report back in a day or so.

Ok well I tried using my laptop's dGPU to rule out my AMD card... With my Nvidia Quadro K1000M ENB still does not work. At least now I know 100% it's a software bug, but I started in safe mode with less than 25 processes running and it still won't work. I also tried fresh ini files and fresh install of the past 3 ENB versions. I also did a fresh install of Fo3 with a fresh install of ENB and no luck.

It's not a bug with Windows 8, right?

I seems like you do not read stuff very carefully, NVSE works fine with me, it has to cause i made like 20 scripted mods that need NVSE, i never said that it didn't.

And FYI, most computer users that are a little knowledgable about PC's know that there is Always something broken in the system.
Even when you install any OS freshly there are errors, in every piece of hardware there are errors, in every RAM module there are errors, they just block them off so the rest of the module works.
Lesser graphic cards are like radeon 5830 are actually 5870's that did not pass the test, they block of some shader proccessors and sell them as a 5830.
So there you go, what you say really does not help...at all...
And i'm not calming down, i have Lyme disease and a mental disorder, so i keep being agitated and uncontrollable..

Now back on topic, Chiknnwatrmln, so i see you tried just about anything one can think of, besides reinstalling Windows...LOL...
Now i can't help you there if it comes to Windows 8 cause i never worked with Win8, i work with XP and Win7 and Vista.
I have read that there where people who had problems running Fallout with Win8, but that is without ENB.
And you said that it runs without ENB fine, so that is not the problem, still, it could affect it.

I don't know how good your computing skills are but i would try a dual boot setup, cause since you say that it also doesn't work with Nvidia and AMD,
it must be a software problem indeed (but that much was pretty much apparent already), and i can imagine that Win 8 uses a different driver structure that Win7 does.
I know that new OS version lean on old technology, but they Always change some stuff when making new versions to accomodat new technology's,
so i can imagine that could be a reason for this behaviour in some cases.
I don't know if you have a laptop or second PC so that you can keep being connected to the internet, if so, i know all the tricks and problems you can run into while installing a dual boot setup.

if you want to try, i can make you a detailed description on how to make a dual boot setup, also with the problems you can encounter and the solutions to those problems.
If you're interested, let me know.
It would take you 3 hours tops to get it working and you would still have your current OS installed alongside and unharmed.
That being said, ofcourse you should make a system backup with a good imaging program like Acronis or Windows Backup.

And by the way, in the end, it could very well be ENB too, it's just trial and error.
But since i don't see a whole lot of people here complaining that they have a crash on startup it leads me to believe that it must be solvable.

I've read your and Chiknwatrmln posts, but i answered in the way i want. Because if nothing helps (and you guys tried a lot of things and game is still crashing) - reinstalling OS is the best choice. It's not the best way to solve problems with games, especially if you're using PC for work, i know that, but you can install new OS on another drive, you can try different OS as well, not only win 8 (i'm sure all win 8 users have legal win 7 copy they've used before w8 release), and you will be able a) work without any problems on your PC without any losses, b) test your games on new OS, test drivers, other stuff.

My Steam game version does not work (with or without NVSE installed),
that is something entirely different then My steam version works, but NVSE doesn't work.
Apparently you have problems with understanding english, not a real problem, but i do feel the need to correct you here.

I just have no time for too much unneccesary conversation, i thought if i tell you how it is, you might understand and we could talk like normal human beings, but it looks like we can't.

I do not think that reinstalling OS is the best choice, as i said i worked a long time as a system supervisor, and reinstalling the OS is hardly ever neccesary.
That is something people do when they don't know how to solve their problem in any other way.
You learn tons more from solving the real problem that you have then to simply reinstall.
If you reinstall, you never know afterwords what caused the problem, so, bad choice, or at least a last resort choice.

The best way to try for chiknwatermln to find out if it is OS related is to install dual boot.
That way he keeps his pc working at all times.

I've tried to create a partition to install Windows 7, but for some reason I can't shrink the volume of my C drive by more than about 4gb, even after I ran a defrag.
