Custom Tonemapping

So, seeing how the default tonemapping is completely broken, the custom one already available in the effects forum being not much better, and the only one approaching anything usable being mode 2 with severe value tweaking, I figure I need to write my own code to get it to actually look good.

Problem is I have no experience with this kind of thing. I can barely read the code as is, full of unknown calls like pow, strange namespaces, variable names like xyz and these odd seemingly jumbled assigment statements running through the whole thing. I just don't know where to even start.

Help?

Right, you are definetly specialist who know what is broken and what is not. Good luck!

Considering that the default setting can't even map pure white to much more than a light grey, and that adjusting the saturation somehow affects the brightness, I'd say that's pretty broken.
