Since I'm trying to learn to work properly with shaders, I'm asking myself if there's any useful working environment. Currently I'm working with Notepad++ only (just with HLSL language implemented).
I still have a key of Visual Studio 2010 which I wanted to try with this, but can anyone tell me if there are good plugins for it and if I even need them? Is working with VS 2010 for shaders more a pain in the a** than a useful step to take?
What other tools can you recommend?

I'm using notepad++ & fxc.exe from Directx SDK 2010 for debugging & compiling ASM in SM 5.0

There are also official tools like FXcomposer (discontinued after dx10) and Nsight.
