kalicola wrote:Alright. I really have to promote SkyRealism - ENB Evolved here.. I did something drastic, and tried messing around with one of the SkyRealism presets, and ditched everything from my old setting, using ONLY SkyRealism (just as a test of course and to try something new, cause I felt like I was stuck).

And I must say! After just an hour of playing around, I got something very close to my original setting, but without all the small hickups and flaws, or so it seems for new at least. That is very impressive. The SkyRealism presets at very ballanced and very close to vanilla skyrim, and if you are a little careful about your settings, then you can easily advoid things like dark waterfalls, and dark mountains and such.. Of course you have to know what you are doing to get fast results, but I am impressed with SkyRealism for now, I don't know if it stands the test of time being tweaked like crazy, but we'll have to see about that.

I even think in many cases that my new SkyRealism preset looks better than my original Beta thing (especially in foggy weather, but need to tone down the northern lights), everything feels more consistant somehow, and this is without SSAO, which I don't seem to be able to get satisfying results with yet, and I'm liking that extra framerate it gives me. Until I find a good SSAO setting, I will leave it off.. And please, share you SSAO settings here, as I'm having problems getting something good out of it.

Anyways, here's a few screens from my original setting and my new SkyRealism based one. Btw, is the creator of SkyRealism on this forum? :)
Yes, he is here. Same username, indigoneko.

Previously, I was using SSAO in nVidia and in ENB. I didn't like the black fog around my character when near snow, and I could see the polygon shape of the meshes of snow too...

Today I disabled it in ENB, and saw 10-20 FPS increase! No more black fog near snow, no more polygon edges.

Problem though, my interiors became VERY bright. :| I will see if I can fix this tomorrow. Using 119 if anyone has any tips.

More interior examples...big difference with ENB SSAO off.

Re: TES Skyrim

Turn it down? You'll never get the same result with Nvidia's SSAO.

Re: TES Skyrim

Turn what down? All of the settings I have tried changing, the fog might lesson around the character, but the polygons were still visible.

I set AOAmount from 2.2 to 1 and didn't see a noticeable difference. SizeScale and SourceTextureScale I moved from 0.5 to 0.25, and there wasn't much of a difference. I think maybe there is another file that is affecting ENB SSAO, because the only time I see a huge difference from ENB SSAO is when I disable it in the enbseries.ini

No other files. Consider upgrading to the latest ENB binary - no black aura around the character or ambient occlusion applied to bright surfaces such as snow (use AOMixingType 0 or 2).

In my opinion Nvidia AO is pretty much worthless.

Re: TES Skyrim

Maybe it's just me but I find the AO barely noticeable in interiors with versions past 119. I've messed around with the settings but I can't get any consistency between indoors and out. Where it's only faintly visible inside it's pitch black outside. I suppose I can redo all the interior settings to darken them up, but eh.

Re: TES Skyrim

If polygons with latest ssao still visible, then it's sampling range is too short, increase it or decrease quality of ssao.
Don't remember changes in ssao mixing code between 0.119 and 0.120, ssao itself changed (not sure). Ssao should not be visible much inside interior scenes, because they almost not have ambient light from sky, that's why i did aomixingtype, use values 2 and bigger to make ssao visible everywhere, but it's not realistic.

Re: TES Skyrim

I guess you guys already tried AOMixingType 2? I have noticed this too, and it becomes somewhat of a problem because the natural lighting in exteriors and interiors is so drastically different especially if you compare sunny daylight and deepest depths of a dungeon. Increasing IL somewhat helps for exteriors, but then the IL is most likely too strong for interiors and causes issues with bright light sources as well. I actually already suggested separate SSAO and SSIL settings for interiors and exteriors to Boris as I think it would solve the problem and give a lot more flexibility, but I'm not sure how feasible that would be from a development point of view.
