Woah. I was in exactly the same area, thinking exactly the same thing, not 10 minutes ago. It's mainly for how shadows affect trees that it's annoying me. Say you're looking towards the sun - any trees close by will be appropriately shadowed, and silhouetted dark against the bright sun. But any trees past that shadow line will look like crap by comparison - fully lit up. Ugly as hell.

I think this seems to be a problem specifically for vegetation too. Since you can clearly see the tower in your screenshot shadow casting on the ground. Maybe it's just an issue with shrubs? I remember Vurt talking about an engine issue where shrubs fade in and out of view too soon, and there being nothing he can do to fix it with his flora overhaul mod. Perhaps this is related to the shadow issue with them?

I'll try messing around with shadow distance tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Hopefully trees will shadow cast further, even if shrubs won't.
