A shot in the dark, but have you tried reverting your Skyrim preferences back to default by removing SkyrimPrefs.ini and Skyrim.ini?

I'm not sure, but i think Boris once said "Skylighting artifacts" about something similar.

Yes, actually thats one of the last things I have tried last night before giving up. Its interesting that it only happens with shadows, but I feel it is only more noticeable in shadows.. However as I have said, its as if its a filter over the image (or under?) where it is more apparent in dark and in full lit areas its not possible to see. Hmm I have asked few more people to test it, and they are seeing the same artifacts. Very strange.

I am going to try few more things and thanks for the tip about skylighting I havent messed around with that yet, but I just cant seem to figure out what it is.. Texture optimization, that whole conversion of DXT5 to DXT1 perhaps? I remember trying SMCO optimizer and forgot about it. I doubt it but I might do a clean install and try it out I guess.

AMD or Nvidia? On AMD, the AA method Adaptive or Supersampling made some textures with a thin transparent checker board over them. Only setting AA to Multisampling eliminated it.

NVidia, its not a bad idea still. I will try this also. Its just interesting that different people and computers are seeing these artifacts. I have tried bunch of different drivers already, remember noticing this since ENBseries v217 (though I should try earlier ones to see if its settings/hardware issue or ENB before making claims, but like I said I havent a clue) just thought it was on my end so never bothered, now it bugs me to know there are others out there too. (thats pretty funny actually)

It's in the shadows because it's shadow noise without filtering. Like said, revert the preferences files, or at least try setting iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3.

Mindflux
Thanks for checking it out! I'm going to look into it as well and will post if I find anything.

Doshu
No help, but I do see the same thing. Looks similar to the edges of detailed shadows if you don't have blurDeferred set to at least 3, but that isn't it.

(doh! I didn't see your response first Mindflux  )

Finally found something that changed it out.. After our talk with shadows I decided to play with SSAO_SSIL and when I set the filter quality to extreme, it solved the issue.. Anything below high and appears back.. Although I am not sure if it completely fixes it.. I am tweaking it out with the .ini stuff and testing it to see if it is indeed the problem or band aid.

This is going to make bunch of people happy.

*edit* sorry for not mentioning iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3 was one of the first things I tried. :)

Re: TES Skyrim 0.221

The noise in shadow reminded me the ENOISE setting in the effect.txt file. Is that disabled or enabled?

Its not that either.. However I think noise and shadows are part of it, but strangely it can be seen in areas without shadow as well. Played awhile with SSAO and SSIL stuff, although disabling ambient occlusion didnt do it, changing filter quality and turning of the oldstyle helps but its still noticeable.. Hmmm also noticed that shadows seem to flicker as well, especially under movement. It is hard to take a solid screenshot and show the problem. I might try to record with FRAPS or something, very strange.

After a long session of tweaking, the filter effect is still there no matter how high I set the shadows or SSAO/SSIL.. Its either weird or normal. Hard to test anything with Skyrim unfortunately. I started a new game every time and never got similar results.
