Background info: I use the mod "Colorful lights no shadows" to lessen the load on my CPU. It changes all of the shadow lights (Shadow_Spotlight, Shadow_Omnidirectional, etc.) to "Omnidirectional". This replaces the dynamic shadow-casting lights with static-shadow lights. This also removes that ugly blockiness.

Reverting the lights to shadow casting lights remedies the issue.

The issue is that the textures of particular surfaces are made pure black, with only the normal maps being used. If lights are used (a torch, the spell candlelight), their colour can be somewhat reflected.

It's not light specific. It pertains to certain cells only. Hjerm (before Blood On The Ice quest is done. Haven't tested after it is done) and Bleak Falls Barrow (the altar between Arvel The Thief and the draugr) are two that I've found so far.

On a side note, the toony effect is awesome. If only it were possible to render the textures as well...

Edit: Forgot to upload the mod. Here it is.

It's got nothing to do with scripts; it changes the light records to "Omnishadow".

For some odd reason, the one I linked to has a different file size to the one I've got in my data folder...Even though it was the same file.

A reason for the crash might be that you don't have the DLC; the one I uploaded includes Dragonborn and Dawnguard lights.

As an update, after completing the Blood On The Ice quest, the issue dissappears. As has the fog particles and the lighting; it's a red tint rather than purple now.

Very odd.

DLC activated don't fix crash at startup. Why the hell should i care about mod which remove "glitchy shadows while maintaining color and brightness for improved performance and image quality"? I don't care about such stuff, those blind bums don't use my mod at all. Finally, version from Nexus work for me without any bugs when using coc BleakFallsBarrow01/02

That's odd. Guess I'll live with it then.

And on the topic of that mod, I'd say it improves the way that the game looks; no shadowmaps. And on a draw-call hungry game, shadows @ distance of 10,000 causes my FPS to stay at 30. Removing shadows, stable 40.

If the renderer was multithreaded, trust me, I'd have the shadows cranked up to eleven.
