I'm not experiencing crashes with NT4.0 compatibility mode, and as far as I can see the compatibility mode has no drawbacks - or does it?

Yeah that is the key to running it, the only crash on NT mode is the massive pit in Majula, it happens when you drop down.

Windows 8 doesn't have a NT compatibility mode :(

My mistake, I just hadn't seen any proof of it not happening to everyone, guess I skipped over your video.

I'm still on WHQL drivers, I'll try 337.50 and see if it fixes anything.

That does nothing. I'm using 337.50 and still have the issue.

Do you have SLI nVidia cards by any chance?

I opened up nVidia inspector, searched the Dark Souls II profile and clicked "apply" and viola, no more AO flickering.

I've done that yes. Can you confirm that your Nvidia settings look the same as mine: http://img.techpowerup.org/140506/nvidi ... 175343.png
Go to the 2nd bonfire in the shaded woods or Heides Tower of flame to see if you still get the AO flickering.

Yes, you're right. I get a very slight on/off when the statue is just about to go offscreen. It's barely noticeable now though.

So you're saying that the rate of the AO flickering decreased after you applied a "fresh" Inspector profile for the game? I'll try that, but I must say I'm skeptic, it'll set everything to application controlled by default.
