Re: TES Skyrim
Pfuscher
Did some testing with shadow settings, haven't played with them for a while. My conclusion Skyrim shadows are still crap whatever settings you use, but think I've been able to improve on what I had..
My shadow settings were 4k with shadow distance set to 8000
Shadow resolution
4k (my original settings)
8k Gets a noticeable detail increase
It tried 12k which showed no real difference, 16k would CTD when it tried to render the scene at 8k screen resolution, worked at 4k but again no real difference
The only way I could increase the shadow quality more was to decrease the draw distance
8k shadows, 4000 draw distance - nice detail increase but draw distance too short
Draw distance
The only way I could change the shadow on trees was to change fShadowDistance, you can extend it quite nicely..
4000
8000
24000
But at the cost of close up shadows, 8k shadows, distance 24000
I couldn't get consistently acceptable shadows at anything above distance 8000, 12000 and 16000 aren't bad but a bit too blocky for HQ screenshots
I'm going to stick with 8k shadows at 8000 distance and see how it goes, other shadows such as selfshadows seem to get decent improvement too at 8k, the overall scenes shadows just look that bit tighter.

Re: TES Skyrim
That's what I thought. 8k compensates increased range

Re: TES Skyrim
I'm currently using shadow settings JawZ posted awhile back on the forums.
Looks best with 4k shadow setting, 2k didn't look good with the ShadowBlurRange / iBlurDeferredShadowMask set that low.
