Does it just auto-register any shader that compiles and has a UIName in the technique, or are there specific places you need to reference it?

Nevermind, most of them are using a bunch of custom hlsl identifiers, functions, and things that are built into Reshade for stuff like thread-safe cross-pass variable storage and whatnot.
